Duren was injured in the second quarter of Friday's victory over the Miami Heat.
He had played just 10 minutes in the game, connecting on two of his four shots and pulling down six rebounds.
Duren, averaging 13 points, 7.5 rebounds and two assists per game in the fledgling season, will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Pistons said.
He'll miss at least six games, including two against the Philadelphia 76ers and a clash with the defending champion New York Knicks.

Last season Duren averaged a career-high 19.5 points per game and was named an All-Star for the first time, helping the Pistons bag the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
He struggled in the playoffs as the Pistons were eliminated in the second round and missed the start of training camp in a contract extension standoff before inking a five-year deal worth a reported $200 million.
