Hampson will start the season in the D'Backs' Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces team. He's a graduate of Reno High School, where he was originally drafted out of in the 26th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
Hampson is an impressive utilityman. He played every position last season while on the Kansas City Royals except catcher - seriously. He played 52 games in center field, 28 in left field, 24 at second base, eight at both first base and shortstop, seven in right field, two at third base, and even pitched in one game.
Hampson slashed .230/.275/.300/.576 last season for Kansas City, all down from the previous year he spent with the Miami Marlins. He also didn't knock a single home run and only hit 16 RBI with seven steals.
The now-eight-year veteran is heading to his fourth team. After originally being drafted by the Washington Nationals out of high school, he decided to go to college at California State University, Long Beach then went in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft to the Colorado Rockies, where he spent five seasons at.
The Diamondbacks finished third in the National League West division last season with an 89-73 record.
