The Boston Red Sox and closer Aroldis Chapman agreed to a contract extension on Saturday, according to reporter Francys Romero.

Chapman is now under contract with the Red Sox through the 2026 season with a vesting option for 2027. He'll earn an additional $13.3 million in guaranteed money for 2026.

The veteran closer has not allowed a single hit in 14 straight games - a Red Sox record. Orel Hershiser holds the MLB record with 59 hitless innings.

In 57 games this year, the 37-year-old has 26 saves in 28 opportunities. Chapman's 1.04 earned run average, .119 opponent batting average, and 0.67 WHIP lead all relievers across the league.

Not only that, but each of those three stats is a personal best for Chapman despite being in his 16th season.

And to top it off, his 38.7% strikeout percentage is the best in the American League and second best in the MLB (San Diego Padres - Mason Miller - 40.7%).

Boston is currently sits in the second AL Wild Card spot with a 75-62 record, sitting just behind their hated rivals, the New York Yankees (75-60).

The Red Sox will wrap up their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday before getting ready to host the Cleveland Guardians in a three-game series.
