Albernaz's previous MLB coaching experience includes bullpen coach/catching instructor for the San Francisco Giants (2020-2023).
The 42-year-old joined the Guardians as their bench coach in 2024 and remained in the same role for this season.
This will be his first manager role in the majors.
Albernaz history
After spending time in the minors as a player who wasn't originally drafted, never making the majors, Albernaz began coaching in the minors following his retirement.
He started out as a hitting coach for the Single-A Princeton Rays in 2015. The team had a combined .257 batting average that season with a .711 OPS - they are no longer a team.
A year later, he joined the Hudson Valley Renegades, another Single-A team, in the same role. They finished that season with a .255 average and .672 OPS.
He spent time coaching the 2017 Durham Bulls (Triple-A), he went back down to the Renegades to take on the managerial role for the rest of the 2017 season - they finished 42-33 and second in the South Atlantic League North Division, ultimately leading them to a championship.
In the same year, he would go over to Australia to manage the Bowling Green Hot Rods - a Midwest League affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays - and win a championship with them after a 90-49 season. Albernaz would finish the year as a minor league field coordinator for the Rays.
From Cleveland to Baltimore
The Orioles fired former manager Brandon Hyde back in May of this season, leaving Tony Mansolino as the interim manager for the rest of the year.
Baltimore ended the year with a disappointing 75-87 record, finishing last place in the American League East division and the fourth-worst record in the entire AL.
He was part of the managerial team that helped lift the Cleveland Guardians to the MLB Postseason after completing the greatest divisional comeback in MLB history as they took the AL Central title from the Detroit Tigers following an 88-74 season.
