Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers tossed a career-high 14 strikeouts during Sunday's matchup against the Texas Rangers, his previous being 12.

Detmers, 26, didn't allow a single walk and only one run on a solo home run by Jake Burger. He finished the game with 96 pitches (69 strikes) through eight innings of work.

It is also the fewest hits Detmers has allowed in a start since August 8, 2023, when he allowed one hit in 7.1 innings to none other than the Rangers.

The Illinois native had been struggling this season, tossing a 5.07 earned run average before entering Sunday's match-up (now at 4.57 following his gem of a start).

Despite the rough season, Detmers has made history with the Angels in the past. In his sixth major-league start during the 2022 season, Detmers became the youngest pitcher (22) in franchise history to throw a no-hitter and also the team's first rookie since Bo Belinsky (1962) to do so.

The Angels entered the game as the worst team in baseball, becoming the final team to earn their 20th win on the season after Oswald Peraza knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

It was Peraza's lone hit of the game and just the fourth from the entire team.
