Pete Carroll has been fired as Las Vegas Raiders head coach after just one season in charge, the team confirmed on Monday.

The Las Vegas Raiders appointed former long-time Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll as their head coach in 2024 following the dismissal of Antonio Pearce.

After beating the New England Patriots in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, Carroll and the Raiders would go on to lose 14 of their next 15 games. The silver-and-black beat the Kansas City Chiefs in their Week 18 matchup on Sunday, which would be Carroll's last act as Raiders head coach.

"The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Pete Carroll of his duties as head coach. We appreciate and wish him and his family all the best," team owner Mark Davis said in a statement on the team website.

Davis went on to confirm that GM John Spytek will remain with the team to spearhead the search for a new head coach, alongside Tom Brady, who will co-lead the team along Spytek.

"Together, they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization's long-term vision and goals."

Fourth head coach in five years

Following the departure of Jon Gruden in 2021, no Raiders head coach has lasted more than one full season, with Josh McDaniels getting fired during the 2023 season and his successor, Antonio Pearce, getting fired after his first full season in 2025.

It's the first time Pete Carroll has been fired from an NFL organization since 1994, when he was let go by the New York Jets.

Carroll signed a three-year deal in January 2025, with the option to extend for another year. The Raiders added Ashton Jeanty to the team in the 2025 NFL Draft, but lost defensive ace Christian Wilkins after a prolonged disagreement about the treatment of an injury.

During Carroll's one season with the Raiders, the team ranked bottom of the league in rushing yards per game with 77.5 yards per game, while QB Geno Smith led the league in interceptions thrown with 17.

Pete Carroll is the second NFL head coach to be fired on 'Black Monday', the first day after the final NFL regular season games. Earlier, Kevin Stefanski was fired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns after a six-year tenure.

On Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot after an 8-9 season.
