Josh Allen is the NFL's reigning MVP and he's ready to hopefully lead the Buffalo Bills to their first Super Bowl this season.

The 29-year-old quarterback is coming off arguably his finest season from an efficiency standpoint, throwing 28 touchdowns (with 12 rushing touchdowns) against a career-low six interceptions. He accomplished this without a dominant No. 1 wide receiver - Khalil Shakir was the leading receiver with 821 yards and four touchdowns - while leading the Bills to a 13-4 record and an appearance in the AFC Championship Game.

The Bills have won five straight division titles since 2020 and will look to continue their dominance this season, and Allen looked ahead to it in a one-on-one interview with Flashscore.

"It all starts Week 1," says Allen. "I think the first two or three weeks, teams are still trying to find themselves, so you can't really trust the first couple of weeks too much.

"But going out there and just executing to our abilities and putting our best foot forward and not focusing so much on the results, but focusing on the process of doing things the right way.

"That's kind of how we always do it here in Buffalo, and having that playoff-calibre mindset of the standard is the standard," Allen continues to say.

"Just making sure that we're coming together as a team and playing hard."

The AFC East has revamped this offseason with the New England Patriots bringing their former Super Bowl champion linebacker, Mike Vrabel, in as head coach. They'll have higher expectations with quarterback Drake Maye coming off a promising rookie season and the addition of four-time Pro Bowl wideout Stefon Diggs.

Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins will return with a healthy Tua Tagovailoa and his familiar set of talented wideouts in Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle. They also added former Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller to the mix and one of their former Pro Bowler safeties in Minkah Fitzpatrick. After clinching back-to-back playoff berths during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, they will be looking to return to the postseason.

To round things out, the New York Jets will enter the 2025 season with a new regime led by head coach Aaron Glenn and quarterback Justin Fields.

Allen has very high praise in particular for Maye. The 23-year-old quarterback went to the Pro Bowl after his rookie season as a replacement for the Bills' quarterback.

"There's a lot of change going on, but I will say this, I think Tua is a fantastic football player," says Allen.

"Same thing goes for Justin Fields. I think Drake Maye is - I've gotten the chance to know him over the last couple of years, we have the same agency, so we're kind of in the same circles - he's an absolute stud.

"He can throw it with the best of them, and he moves around well," Allen continues to say of Maye.

"He's got his head on his shoulders pretty tight. He's extremely fun to watch. I'm rooting for him from afar - except when they play the Bills. He's a fantastic person, a fantastic player."

When asked who Maye reminds him of the most as a player, Allen actually draws the comparison to a current one: Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert. Herbert is regarded as one of the top pure passers in the league, but also has mobility as one of his key traits. Herbert posted 23 touchdowns against three interceptions last season to go along with 306 rushing yards.

"He's athletic, he can spin it,  tall guy," says Allen of Maye.

"There is a little bit of - I don't want to say me, because it sounds weird - I do admire his game. I think he's got some Herbert. I think Herbert's kind of similar in terms of he can throw the heck out of the ball. He moves around extremely well. I would say Justin Herbert."

As far as quarterbacks that Allen looked up to or moulded his own game after, the veteran quarterback names three all-time greats - Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre.

"Absolutely, I think there were a couple - I think Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady," says Allen.

"Aaron just throwing off platform, and the way that he delivers the football. Then obviously, Tom, with what he did in New England growing up, getting to see that.

"The guys before them and the guy before Aaron, Brett Favre, I loved watching how he played the game, how much he loved it, how much he loved his teammates.

"I think that that really rubbed off on me from a young age of just being like, 'That looks like a lot of fun, what he's doing out there,'" Allen continues to say. "That's what I wanted to do."

The Brady one is notable considering he had the opportunity to match up against the New England Patriots' great during his final two seasons in New England, but came up short in dethroning him.

Brady and the Patriots won the AFC East during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, with Allen actually going winless against the seven-time Super Bowl champion.

"I never got that sucker, but I got him in golf not too long ago," says Allen while laughing.

Allen downplays the dominance that the Bills have had in the division over the past five years, stressing that every team in the division is "0-0 right now." Buffalo are 24-6 against AFC East opponents over the past five years.

"We're all 0-0 right now," says Allen. "Nothing that we did last year or over the last five years matters that much."

A noteworthy storyline during the preseason was Allen not playing for the first time in his career. When asked how that should affect his conditioning, the reigning MVP says getting hit in Week 1 in the regular season is different from getting hit in the preseason.

"I'm going to do whatever coach asks me to do," says Allen of head coach Sean McDermott.

"Going back to last year, I played maybe two or three drives, so it's not like I played a lot last year either. The conditioning aspect of it, just making sure that I'm doing everything on the practice field and then running extra and making sure that I'm exerting myself enough to be conditioned.

"But regardless if I played in every single preseason game, Week 1 getting hit and getting tackled and getting up, it's a little bit different than preseason and that next day and the next two days," Allen continues to say.

"I'm going to be sore no matter what. We just got to live with that. Coach has a gut feeling in terms of me playing, and just gotta trust the gut sometimes."

One of the more notable additions the Bills have made recently is the signing of former Pro Bowler and All-Pro selection Jordan Poyer. Poyer was one of the keys to the Bills clinching their first playoff berth in 18 years in 2017 and is now back in Buffalo after spending last season with the Miami Dolphins.

Buffalo have also brought back former star cornerback Tre'Davious White after he spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens.

Allen says he has spoken to Poyer since his signing, saying he saw the veteran safety in the building shortly after his signing.

"I think both those guys bring an attitude, the leadership qualities that you'd hope to have from the vets in the room, kind of that mentorship type of player," says Allen.

"They both feel that they have a lot left in the tank, and so do I if they get the chance to get on the field for us, having the trust that they're going to go out there and do their job to the best of their abilities.

"But just love the humans that they are, too. I've known them both for quite some time, and known Poyer since I got here to Buffalo. They're just awesome teammates."
