The Buffalo Bills are expected to hire offensive coordinator Joe Brady as the franchise's new head coach, as per reports.

Several insiders reported that Joe Brady, 36, will sign a five-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills fired long-time head coach Sean McDermott on January 19th after nine years. "I feel we are in need of a new structure within our leadership to give this organization the best opportunity to take our team to the next level," owner Terry Pegula said about McDermott's dismissal.

Under McDermott, the Bills ended a 17-year playoff drought in his first year in charge, the longest such drought in all of North American sports at the time.

The Buffalo Bills reached the playoffs in eight of McDermott's nine seasons in charge, but only made the AFC Championship Game twice and never made the Super Bowl.

From interim OC to head coach

Joe Brady arrived at the Bills in 2022 as quarterback coach under Sean McDermott. After Ken Dorsey was fired as the Bills' offensive coordinator in Week 10 of the 2023 NFL Season, Brady was named interim OC and later promoted to full-time offensive coordinator.

Under Dorsey, QB Josh Allen won the 2024 Most Valuable Player award as the Bills ranked second in scoring offense and 10th in total offense. In 2025, as the Bills finished 12-5, Brady's offense ranked fourth in both scoring and total offense. RB James Cook led the league with 1,621 rushing yards and 95.4 rushing yards per game.

Since hiring Brady as their OC in Week 11 of the 2023 Season, the Bills first in EPA per play (0.14) and second in points per game (29.1).

The 36-year-old Brady began his coaching career at William & Mary, where he became the linebackers coach in 2013 after playing wide receiver for the Tribe from 2009 to 2012.

After spending two years at Penn State as a graduate assistant, Brady moved to the NFL as he began as an offensive assistant at the New Orleans Saints in 2017. Brady became the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at LSU before joining the Carolina Panthers as their offensive coordinator in 2020 - his last job before moving to the Bills.
