Christian Borgnaes today delivered the best result ever for Danish skiing at the Winter Olympics when he finished in 20th spot at the Giant Slalom competition.

Borgnaes was particularly fast during the second run. After the first run on Saturday morning, he was ranked 22nd but after finishing in 15th place in the second run, he moved up to the 20th place overall.

Before the Games, he had ambitions of a place in the top 15. He was 0.63 seconds away from achieving that.

Brazil's Lucas Pinheiro Braathen made South American sporting history as he outclassed his rivals to win the Olympic giant slalom ahead of Swiss great Marco Odermatt on Saturday.

No athlete from the continent had ever won a medal of any colour at the Winter Games, but the 25-year-old put that right with two incredible runs down the Stelvio course.
