It was a highly productive weekend for African stars across Europe’s top five leagues, even if their fortunes varied.

ENGLAND

Bryan Mbeumo found the net as Manchester United secured an impressive 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Cameroonian was lively from the outset, testing Sam Johnstone with an early effort as the hosts initially showed promise despite their dire league position.

After the hosts took a 25th-minute lead through captain Bruno Fernandes, Wolves levelled matters on the stroke of half-time courtesy of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Six minutes before the hour mark, Mbeumo gave United the lead after tapping home an assist from Diogo Dalot.

Mason Mount volleyed home the third while Fernandes completed his brace from the penalty mark to help Ruben Amorim’s men climb to sixth in the English elite division log.

ITALY

Rafik Belghali was among the scorers as Hellas Verona finally ended their 13-game winless run in Serie A with a stunning 3–1 victory over Atalanta.

The Algeria international, who has been in fine form for the Mastiffs in recent weeks, set the pace at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium with the opener.

After Daniel Mosquera’s clever backheel released him in the box, Belghali dazzled with a sharp feint to beat his marker before rifling in a powerful finish in the 28th minute.

His strike ignited the hosts, who soon doubled their advantage through Giovane before Antoine Bernede added a superb third.

Atalanta, who had Ademola Lookman on parade from start to finish, pulled one back via a Gianluca Scamacca penalty, but that could not help them launch a comeback.

GERMANY

Mohamed Amoura inspired Wolfsburg to a much-needed 3–1 victory over Union Berlin, helping end their 14-match winless home run in all competitions.

The Algerian forward doubled Wolfsburg’s lead on the half-hour mark, reacting sharply to Sael Kumbedi’s cutback and firing home his fifth Bundesliga goal of the season.

Amoura remained a constant threat and later thought he had scored again, only for VAR to rule out his second strike for offside.

Although Union pulled one back through Stanley Nsoki and later missed a penalty, Amoura’s impact ensured Wolfsburg moved three points clear of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Yan Diomande delivered a brilliant performance as RB Leipzig crushed Eintracht Frankfurt 6–0 at the Red Bull Arena.

With goals from Conrad Harder and Christoph Baumgartner giving the hosts a first-half lead, the Ivorian continued the obliteration with a second-half treble.

Two minutes into the second half, Diomande reacted quickest to a loose ball and swept home Leipzig’s third before doubling his tally in the 55th minute with a left-footed beauty from the edge of the box.

Five minutes after the hour mark, he completed his hat-trick when he raced onto Nicolas Seiwald’s through ball, rounded goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, and calmly slotted home.

Thanks to the result, RB Leipzig moved to second in the log, having accrued 29 points in 13 games, just eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

FRANCE

Lassine Sinayoko and Oussama El Azzouzi were central to Auxerre’s vital 3–1 win over Metz, a result that ended a nine-match winless run in Ligue 1.

In a tense clash between two relegation-threatened sides, the hosts took the initiative after the half-hour mark.

A VAR review penalised the visitors for handball, allowing Malian forward Sinayoko to step up and power home a decisive penalty that sent Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps into wild jubilation.

Three minutes later, Moroccan star El Azzouzi doubled the lead after finishing off a fine exchange with Sekou Mara as his strike beat goalkeeper Jonathan Fischer.

Although Gauthier Hein’s superb free-kick briefly pulled Metz back into the game, Sinayoko remained a constant threat after the break, nearly adding a second with a brilliant turn and shot.

The visiting side pushed hard late on, but Kevin Danois’ 89th-minute curler sealed a crucial victory for Auxerre.

At the Parc des Princes, 17-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye stole the spotlight as Paris Saint-Germain swept aside Rennes 5–0 to maintain their unbeaten Ligue 1 home record.

Introduced late in the game, the Senegal international capped the hosts’ dominant display with a sensational strike just before full time.

Before Mbaye’s breakthrough moment, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had already dazzled with a sublime opener, while Senny Mayulu added a composed penalty as reigning European kings PSG found their rhythm after a sluggish start.

In another French top-flight fixture, Kamory Doumbia was the hero as he delivered the decisive moment as 10-man Stade Brestois battled to a hard-fought 1–0 victory over AS Monaco.

The 22-year-old Malian capped his influence with the match’s only goal in the 28th minute after reacting quickest when Lukas Hradecky parried Ludovic Ajorque’s effort, rising to head home from close range.

Brest’s lead was threatened after Ajorque was sent off following a VAR review; however, they held firm to pick all points at stake.
