Clara Tauson has withdrawn from next week's WTA 500 tournament in Toyo, which starts on Monday, as she is not to fit to play yet after struggling with back problems in her first round defeat against Alja Tomljanovic in Ningbo.

Tauson's father and manager, Soren Tauson, confirms to TV 2 Sport that the Tauson camp made the decision Sunday afternoon:

"Clara will not compete in Tokyo. She was otherwise very much looking forward to Tokyo, but she is not ready to do battle."

"It's a shame. She has played some nice tennis in recent weeks, but her body has not been ready to play full matches, and we have to react to that", explains Soren Tauson.

The decision comes in the wake of a few weeks where Tauson has struggled with physical problems. In the last match in Ningbo, China, Tauson received treatment for her back, but she finished the match, which she lost in three sets to Alja Tomljanovic.

The week before, Tauson had to retire with pain in the match against Jasmine Paolini in Wuhan.

Tauson is thus only registered to participate in one more tournament, the WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong, which starts next Monday, before the season ends.

A few days ago, Tauson was selected for the Danish national team that travels to Mexico to play Billie Jean King Cup internationals on 14 and 15 November. Time will tell if Tauson will be ready to take part.
