Canadian Gabriel Diallo booked his spot in the second round of the Rolex Paris Masters after knocking Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor out in straight sets: 6-3, 6-4.

Griekspoor, who retired from last week's quarter-finals in Vienna due to a back injury, arrived in Paris as the number 25 of the ATP Rankings after beating Karen Khachanov and Brandon Nakashima in Austria. His opponent, Gabriel Diallo, was eliminated from the first round in Basel last week.

The Dutchman's back issues gave Diallo the upper hand in the first set, which the Canadian was able to dominate mostly through Griekspoor's poor service games. The 2024 Paris second-rounder hit a first serve percentage of just 40% and allowed Diallo to win three straight service games on love.

Griekspoor valiantly fought to win the ninth and final game after being broken in the sixth, but had to concede to Diallo on the latter's fourth set point.

Diallo was given more of a fight in the second set as Griekspoor improved his first serve rate to 73%, but with the Dutchman still unable to play at full strength, Diallo took the initiative once more. After fending off two break points in his first service game, Diallo broke Griekspoor in the fifth to take a 2-3 lead.

The Canadian never lost control over the match again and reeled in his fourth consecutive second-round berth in an ATP 1000 tournament. Up next for the youngster is a meeting with sixth seed Alex de Minaur.
