The 22-year-old Danish tennis star has just moved up to No 15 in the world rankings - the highest position of her career - and on Sunday evening, Tauson played her way through to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament Cincinnati Open.
Tauson secured a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 victory over Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic, the world number 86, who led 2-1 in head-to-head matches against Tauson before the match.
Tauson did not initially look like a player who cared much about the statistics between the two players. However, it turned out to be a tough match, where temperatures over 30 degrees celcius challenged both players physically.
Tauson controlled Tomljanovic's serve well from the start, as the Dane took an early 3-1 lead.
Tomljanovic struggled against Tauson's heavy groundstrokes from the back line and strong serve as the Dane served home the first set in emphatic style.
In the second set the two players struggled to maintain stability in their game as they took turns breaking each other's serve
The Dane's level dropped slightly, while Tomljanovic invested more and more in her game, and the Australian managed to convert her third set point to take the second set in a tiebreaker while Tauson really seemed to struggle under the intense heat in Cincinnati.
The third set also turned into a tight affair as both players looked very solid in their own service games, but Tauson still managed to take advantage of her first match point to secure the victory as Tomljanovic failed to maintain her high level in third set's decisive moment.
In the third round in Cincinnati, Tauson will face Russian Veronika Kudermetova. She is ranked 36th in the world. This will be the first match between the two.
