The second round of the Australian Open continues on Thursday, with defending champions Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys among a host of big names taking to the court.

15:08 CET - That's a wrap on the fifth day and the second round of the Australian Open!

Things are really going to heat up in Melbourne now, with the draw beginning to pit top players against one another, and our coverage of the next round will begin in around nine hours, when we start a new tracker to keep you up to date with all of the overnight action.

14:12 CET - The final match of the day has been won by 12th seed Casper Ruud, who has beaten Jaume Munar 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and 28 minutes.

12:56 CET - We have a major shock in Melbourne, with Czech teenager Nikola Bartunkova dumping out the in-form 10th seed Belinda Bencic 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

It's a first singles defeat of 2026 for Bencic, who looked imperious at the United Cup at the start of January.

Meanwhile, there was no such trouble for fifth seed Elena Rybakina, who advanced to the third round after battling through a tight opening set to defeat Varvara Gracheva 7-5, 6-2.

11:27 CET - Two-time former champion Naomi Osaka is safely through after recovering from a second-set wobble against Sorana Cirstea to triumph 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

11:23 CET - Defending champion Jannik Sinner and ninth seed Taylor Fritz have eased into the third round after straight-set victories over James Duckworth and Vit Kopriva, respectively.

10:45 CET - In his final Australian Open, Stan Wawrinka has sealed his spot in the third round after a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) win over Arthur Gea in over four-and-a-half hours.

The 40-year-old Swiss star will face either ninth seed Taylor Fritz or Vit Kopriva next.

10:12 CET - Czech teenager Tereza Valentova has progressed in Melbourne after a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 victory over compatriot Linda Fruhvirtova.

09:37 CET - Experienced Croat Marin Cilic is into the next round, with the 37-year-old producing a superb performance to dismantle 21st seed Denis Shapovalov in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.

08:30 CET - Iga Swiatek has moved a step closer to completing the Career Grand Slam, with the Pole easing past Marie Bouzkova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to qualify for the third round.

07:54 CET - Fourth seed Amanda Anisimova is through to the next round after an emphatic 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Czechia's Katerina Siniakova.

Linda Noskova, Elise Mertens, Xinyu Wang and Peyton Stearns have also advanced on the women's side of the tournament.

06:00 CET - Novak Djokovic progresses against qualifier Francesco Maestrelli 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. It was a solid performance from the fourth seed, who won 86% of his first serve points to make it through to the third round.

05:20 CET - It is a big win for Ethan Quinn, who takes out Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in two hours and 16 minutes. The 21-year-old saved all eight break points faced as he now moves into the third round.

04:35 CET -  Ben Shelton enjoyed victory over local hero Dane Sweeny 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 as the American played a solid match to progress without much fuss. The number eight seed hit 19 aces, while he also did not face a break point on his serve. 

Lorenzo Mussetti also moved on in a relatively comfortable fashion, taking out fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. Seeded fifth in the tournament, Mussetti created 23 break chances, converting six to move through to the third round.

04:20 CET - It is a straight sets win for Karolina Pliskova, who got past Janice Tjen 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the third round.

03:50 CET - A few more results over the last hour saw Jakub Mensik defeat Rafael Jodar 6-2, 6-4, 6-4, while Karen Khachanov topped Nishesh Basavareddy 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. Despite a great start to the year, Sebastian Baez's run in Melbourne is done early after falling 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Luciando Darderi.

02:50 CET - Oksana Selekhmeteva produces an impressive upset, downing number 26 seed Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-4. Converting five of her 11 break point opportunities, the 101st ranked player in the world makes it to her first-ever third round at a major.

02:45 CET - Jessica Pegula is through to the third round of the Australian Open after a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 success against McCartney Kessler. Hitting 18 winners to just seven unforced errors, the sixth seeded American played a clean match to advance without any issues.

02:25 CET - Defending champion Madison Keys made it difficult for herself in the second set, but still managed to get past fellow American Ashlyn Krueger 6-1, 7-5. After cruising through the opening set in just 23 minutes, the number nine seed came from 5-2 down, winning the final five games to advance in straight sets.

23:30 CET - Good evening and welcome back to our Tennis Tracker, as the second-round action continues in Melbourne on Thursday!

Play gets underway at 01:00 CET, with defending women's champion Madison Keys facing compatriot Ashlyn Krueger, while Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and Linda Noskova also take to the court in the early hours of the morning.

On the men's side of the tournament, 10-time former champion Novak Djokovic comes up against Italy's Francesco Maestrelli at around 03:30 CETBen Shelton, Lorenzo Musetti and Stan Wawrinka are among the other standout names in action overnight.

Later on, in the night session, Jannik Sinner continues his title defence against home hope James Duckworth, while Iga Swiatek faces a tricky test in the shape of Marie Bouzkova.

Taylor Fritz, Elena Rybakina, Naomi Osaka and Casper Ruud are also in action from 08:00 CET onwards.
