Tampa Bay Rays call up their No. 1 prospect Carson Williams for debut on Friday

The Tampa Bay Rays called up their No. 1 prospect Carson Williams to make his big-league debut on Friday.

Williams is the No. 47 overall prospect in all of baseball and will be batting seventh in their matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals

The 22-year-old shortstop was slashing .213/.318/.447 with 23 home runs, 55 RBI, and 22 stolen bases through 111 games in Triple-A this season. After being selected 28th overall in the 2021 MLB Draft, Williams quickly made his way through the Rays' minor league system.

Starting with rookie ball in 2021, Williams played all of 2022 in Single-A. Then a year later, Williams played most of the season in High-A ball (105 games) before making an dd transition from Double-A for six games and Triple-A for just four games. 

In 2024, he played the entire year in Double-A, slashing .256/.352/.469 20 home runs, 69 RBI, and 33 stolen bases in 115 games. 

Williams is joining a Rays team that is hitting .250 (t-12th) on the year with 139 home runs (t-16th). Tampa is currently fourth in the American League East division with a 61-67 record.
