Haka's six-season stay in the Veikkausliiga is over after they were beaten 2-1 in a battle for survival against KTP, who live to fight another day and will stay in the top flight if they can win the Relegation Playoff against the Ykkosliiga runner-up.

Beginning the day a point behind their opponents, Haka had to take all three points, something they had not done since a 2-1 win over 10-man VPS on 2nd July - 14 league matches ago.

However they intended to finally end that run, losing Oskari Sallinen to injury seven minutes in was not part of the plan, nor was having just one shot on target from seven attempts in the first half.

At the other end, KTP were more creative, but home goalkeeper Liam Hughes dealt with everything that came his way to preserve the goalless scoreline until half-time.

Six minutes after the restart, the great escape looked to be on the cards when Jordan Houston chased a Michael Boamah ball down the right wing, cut inside the defender and curled a low strike across KTP goalkeeper Oscar Linner and into the bottom corner.

However, the Haka joy was short-lived, as KTP drew level on the hour mark. The ball was worked out to Matias Paavola on the right wing, and his first-time low cross was swept home by Petteri Forsell.

With 13 minutes to play, KTP ensured they would hold off relegation for now and condemn their opponents, when substitute Luca Wekstrom drove right through the middle of the Haka half and unleashed a rocket that flew into the top corner from 25 yards to win the match 2-1.

Haka could not produce a late comeback and will therefore be playing second-tier football next season for the first time since 2019. KTP will now face TPS in a playoff in order to maintain their Veikkausliiga status.

Starting the day level on 31 points apiece, VPS and Jaro were fighting for the minor honour of finishing top of the Relegation Group, and the major honour of an Ostrobothnia derby victory, and it was Jaro who took seventh place overall and the bragging rights with a 3-1 victory.

The visitors raced into a two-goal lead after Albin Bjorkskog netted 10 minutes in, then Kerfala Cissoko scored for the 14th time this season after 25 minutes to draw level with SJK's Kasper Paananen at the top of the golden boot standings.

The Vaasa side got back into it before the break when Jesper Engstrom found the net for the first time in 2025, only for Severi Kahkonen to restore the two-goal cushion within seconds of the restart. A third loss in their last four sees VPS finish in ninth place.

On the Aland Islands, home side Mariehamn rounded off their season with a 2-0 win over AC Oulu that sees them finish in eighth place, while the defeat will not dampen the visitors' spirits given they confirmed their survival at a canter having spent much of the season cut adrift.

After a goalless first half, Leo Andersson broke the deadlock within three minutes of the restart, then with 25 minutes to play, Daniel Enqvist sealed all three points.
