The match marked Frederik Birk's debut as permanent coach for Brondby, and he said before the match to TV-channel Viaplay that he wanted to see "fire in the eyes" from his players.
He got exactly what he wanted as the home kicked off the match with plenty of intensity which already paid off after three minutes when Mathias Kvistgaarden finished off a smooth orchestrated Brøndby-attack.
Brondby then had a golden chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty after Viborg's Ivan Näsberg had his arm on the ball but Lucas Lund dived well to save a weak effort from Daniel Wass.
Näsberg then made amends for his error when he restored parity with a close-range header after 27 minutes.
After the break Brondby came out eager to seize the initiative once more and just seconds into the second half they restored their advantage when Daniel Anyembe scored an own goal as he awkwardly tackled the ball into his own net.
Things then from bad to worse for the visitors after 64 minutes when Lucas Lund after a cople of great saves was left helpless when Yuito Suzuki after neat interplay with Noah Nartey made it 3-1 from the edge of the box.
Mileta Rajovic rounded off a perfect night for the hosts when he converted a penalty eight minutes from the end after Jean Manuel Mbom had handled the ball in the box.
Thanks to the win Brondby moved into third place in the table with 30 points three points adrift from FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland.
At the same time Viborg lost another step in the battle for a place in the top 6 and are currently in eighth place before the other matches of the weekend on Sunday.
