Tottenham Hotspur’s hierarchy face new doubts over whether to allow Thomas Frank to continue as head coach, with further discussions expected to take place today.

Chants of “sacked in the morning” rang out around the stadium on Saturday as Spurs slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against West Ham United.

The club have been keen to show patience with Frank and have backed him during the current transfer window.

However, sources acknowledge there was concern among senior figures after the West Ham loss, prompting broader talks over how long the situation can be allowed to continue.

Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has been a strong advocate of giving Frank time to recover from a difficult start to his tenure. Any decision to dismiss him would come as a surprise to the manager himself, having been encouraged that one significant defeat would not trigger such action.

That said, the pressure is undoubtedly growing and he is not safe, with Spurs sitting 14th in the Premier League and having already suffered nine losses this season.

The negative atmosphere at the end of the West Ham game will still be fresh in the minds of both Frank and the club’s leadership this morning.

Behind the scenes, some figures at Tottenham believe a change of head coach is now inevitable. However, there is also an acceptance that any major decision must be part of a clear plan, rather than change to satisfy the general feeling around the club.

John Heitinga has recently joined the first team as an assistant coach and would be capable of stepping in as interim manager if required - but questions remain over the longer-term direction and who would succeed Frank.

Spurs face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday before travelling to Burnley in the Premier League next weekend.

The club will now weigh up whether they trust Frank to deliver results in those two important fixtures.
