Everton boss David Moyes is counting on Saturday's home collapse to Newcastle proving to be a blip.

Everton go to Bournemouth tomorrow night on the back of a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Moyes said at this morning's media preview: "You have to deal with what you get when it comes along, that is the way football is. We had a great result on the Monday night against Man Utd and not so good result on Saturday. But that is football for you.

"The team has done so well. To think how well we have done from near enough this time last year to where we are now, how the players have been performing has been fantastic.

"We certainly carried a few injuries into that game I know that. We played against a really good Newcastle team who have been building over the last four or five years, it was a tough game for us but hopefully we will learn from it."

The Cherries were also beaten - at Sunderland - on the weekend, though Moyes is wary going to Dean Court on Tuesday.

He said,  "Everton don't have a great record at Bournemouth so that is something we have to go there and change.

"We have said that about other stadiums and grounds so we will try and make sure we do it.

"It's probably one of the smallest Premier League grounds. But Bournemouth and the manager are doing an exceptional job with what they have available to them.

"So it's a tough encounter for any team going there."

Squad stretched

On the injury front, Moyes admits there'll be more changes given the time of the season.

He explained, "We're looking okay. Though, as I said, we went into the Newcastle game carrying a few boys with injuries from the game in midweek.

"So they played, though on another day, with other players available, they probably would not have been considered.

"But there's no excuses for that from our point of view. We're now getting into that part of the season where there's a lot of games, so there'll be more injuries, suspensions and the squad will be stretched."

Thierno Barry

Moyes also was asked about the form and impact of striker Thierno Barry.

The summer signing from Villarreal has had his moments in his first months in England, though he is still waiting for his first goal with the Toffees.

Moyes said, "What we have chosen to do at the moment is giving him the opportunity to play, to show what he can do. I think it is great what the supporters have done, they have backed him big time, and it has given him great confidence. But saying that to get a cheer from supporters, you have to do the right things, you have to show you're willing. I think if you work hard enough, you will be well accepted.

"Ultimately, if you are trying to reach the top levels against Newcastle and others like that, then any small opportunity that comes around, you have to take your chances and score from them. We need him to come up with goals, that is part of the job if you are a number nine. But we are happy with the way he is playing at the moment. He is certainly beginning to get used to the Premier League and Everton."

Learning from Newcastle

Moyes concedes the performance against Newcastle was a surprise, though also a reminder of how far the club has to go to reach such a level.

However, he insists Everton can get themselves into being part of that top four competition, given time.

"It's time," he continued. "We played against a very good Newcastle team, which have been building for the past 4-5 years.

"Getting Champions League football and gaining experience from that as well. It was a tough game.

"(To get to their level) We need a little bit of time. But also, Newcastle have spent really well over those 4-5 years - and also made the right signings, which is an important thing, getting the recruitment right."

Long-term injuries

Delivering an update on their absences, Moyes admits he's having to juggle players - particularly at the back.

He said, "None of them are available for the game.

"As you can see, we are missing Merlin (Rohl), we are missing an extra midfield player which we are lacking a little bit.

"Seamus (Coleman) would give us more cover at right back if he was available.

"Jarrod (Branthwaite) has been out for most of the season so we are a little bit limited to what we have got central defender wise. We're just a little bit short in those areas but we will be fine and we'll get through it."

And before concluding, Moyes enjoyed a dig at local media after Everton's poor record at Bournemouth was put to him.

With a smile on his face, he replied: "One of these days, one of the questions from BBC Mersey is going to be positive..."
