It was a highly productive weekend for African stars across Europe’s top five leagues, even if their fortunes varied.

England

Yankuba Minteh capped an impressive performance with a late goal as Brighton & Hove Albion strengthened their push for European qualification with a dominant 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Seagulls raced into an early lead through headers from Jack Hinshelwood and captain Lewis Dunk inside the opening five minutes at the Amex Stadium.

Gambia international Minteh sealed the win in the 86th minute, delighting home supporters and giving manager Fabian Hurzeler the perfect celebration after signing a new contract.

The result lifted Brighton to seventh, although they remain two points behind Bournemouth in the race for Europe.

Elsewhere, Omar Marmoush rounded off a dominant night for Manchester City with a late goal in their 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

The Egyptian forward calmly finished after being set up by Erling Haaland, sealing an important win that moved the Citizens closer to Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Jeremy Doku broke the deadlock with a superb strike before Haaland added a second as Pep Guardiola’s men stretched their unbeaten league run to 13 matches.

The Bees battled well early on, with Caoimhín Kelleher making several key saves, but City eventually proved too strong.

Ismaila Sarr and Beto played central roles in an entertaining 2-2 draw between Crystal Palace and Everton at Selhurst Park.

Senegal international Sarr inspired the Eagles’ comeback, scoring the equaliser after lively interplay with Daniel Munoz and later producing a vital goal-line clearance before nearly snatching victory late on.

Guinea-Bissau’s Beto responded brilliantly for the Toffees early in the second half, showing composure to restore the visitors’ lead with his ninth Premier League goal of the season.

However, Palace refused to back down and eventually levelled through Jean-Philippe Mateta, leaving David Moyes men’s hopes of European qualification hanging by a thread.

Spain

Akor Adams emerged as Sevilla’s hero with a stunning late winner in a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Espanyol at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

With the Red and Whites battling to avoid relegation, the Nigeria international struck in added time, curling a powerful effort into the bottom corner after capitalising on tired defending.

Espanyol had taken the lead through Tyrhys Dolan after a tense first half, but when the hosts thought they had equalised earlier through Alexis Sanchez, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Luis Garcia’s men eventually levelled when Andres Castrin made amends for his earlier mistake before Adams completed the turnaround to hand Sevilla a boost in their survival fight.

In another Spanish top-flight fixture, Karl Etta Eyong scored Levante’s winner in a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over 10-man Osasuna.

The Cameroonian striker perfectly ended his long goal drought, diving to head home after coming off the bench late in the match.

Levante had trailed 2-0 early after an own goal from Jeremy Toljan and a strike by Ante Budimir.

However, Victor Garcia scored twice to level the game before Etta Eyong’s late intervention boosted the Frog’s survival hopes in the relegation battle.

Elsewhere, Umar Sadiq made the difference as Valencia secured a valuable 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

Introduced in the second half, the Nigerian quickly made his impact, powering home a header after a swift counter-attack to hand his team their first victory in the Basque Country in 16 attempts.

Despite pressure from Athletic, Valencia defended strongly, with captain Jose Gaya leading the resistance.

The win moved them five points clear of the relegation zone as Athletic’s hopes of qualifying for European football suffered a massive setback with only three matches remaining.

Italy

David Okereke capped a key night for Cremonese with a late goal in their crucial 3-0 victory over nine-man Pisa.

The Nigerian showed great skill by dribbling past a defender before finishing from a tight angle to seal the win and boost Cremonese’s survival hopes.

Earlier, Jamie Vardy ended his long goal drought with the opener before Federico Bonazzoli added a second.

Pisa’s problems worsened after red cards for Rosen Bozhinov, and Loyola left them with nine men.

Also, Idrissa Gueye sealed an important 2-0 victory for Udinese against Cagliari with a late goal after being set up by Keinan Davis.

Udinese produced a disciplined second-half display to secure the win at Unipol Domus after a balanced first half.

Cagliari started brightly and created several chances through Michael Folorunsho and Sebastiano Esposito, but lacked composure in front of goal.

Udinese eventually broke through when Adam Buksa finished from close range before the 19-year-old Senegalese wrapped up the result late on to complete a solid away performance.

Germany

Serhou Guirassy inspired Borussia Dortmund to a 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt as they secured second place in the Bundesliga.

After Frankfurt took an early lead through Can Uzun, the Guinean sparked the hosts’ comeback with a close-range finish from Julian Ryerson’s cross.

Nico Schlotterbeck and Samuele Inacio added further goals to put Dortmund in control before Jonathan Burkardt scored late for the visitors.

The win strengthened the hosts’ strong league finish while damaging Frankfurt’s hopes of qualifying for Europe.
