Defender Marlon Santos played for Los Angeles FC in the United States for a year and a half and even took part in the FIFA Club World Cup. Shortly after the Brazilian left the MLS and returned to Shakhtar Donetsk, LAFC shocked the world by announcing the signing of Son Heung-min from Tottenham.

It came as a surprise to almost everyone, but not to Marlon. The 29-year-old centre-back, who won the Libertadores with Fluminense in 2023, has no doubt that Son will succeed at LAFC. The Brazilian also valued the MLS and emphasised the quality of the league.

"It doesn't surprise me (Son's arrival) because the MLS is a very strong and competitive league, which is growing every day. This signing obviously boosts the league even more, brings even more structure, just like Thomas Muller's," says Marlon in an exclusive interview with Flashscore.

The Brazilian sees a shorter path for the South Korean to adapt to his new club and make an impact in the MLS.

"For Son specifically, being at LAFC alongside Lloris, who has already played with him, will make it easier for him to adapt. He's a player with a lot of quality, a national team player who spent a decade at Tottenham, playing in the Premier League, the Champions League, so he's already got a lot of experience," he said.

"He has a very good CV and a lot of experience. He'll help LAFC a lot," said the defender.
