AS Monaco have sacked coach Adi Hutter after a string of disappointing results, which have left them in fifth place in the French Ligue 1 after seven matchdays. The club have confirmed the news on their website.

The decision comes after a disappointing start to the season for the Monegasques, who haven't lived up to expectations in the Ligue 1 as well as the Champions League.

"The Club would like to thank Adi and his staff for their work and commitment to AS Monaco, and wish them the best for the future," write the French club on their website.

Among the most notable setbacks was the resounding 4-1 defeat against Club Brugge in the Champions League. This disappointment was compounded by the recent 2-2 draw against OGC Nice, where the Monegasques even had the luxury of playing 11 against 10 for the majority of the match.

Having joined the club in July 2023, the Austrian coach contributed to the team’s strong results over the last two seasons, which saw them finish in the top three (2nd and then 3rd) in Ligue 1, qualifying them directly for the Champions League.

According to sources close to the club, the AS Monaco management lost confidence in Hütter's ability to turn the current situation around.

French sources write that the Belgian Sébastien Pocognoli, current coach of Union Saint-Gilloise, will be appointed to replace Hutter as the club hope that Pocognoli's arrival will bring the club back on winning track.
