Getafe returned to winning ways following consecutive losses in La Liga by beating Elche 1-0 at the Estadio Coliseum, marking just a second win in six H2Hs for the Azulones.

Both teams have enjoyed relatively positive starts to the season, with both within striking distance of the European places.

The home side had the early possession but were unable to create goalscoring chances and Elche, sitting a point and three places behind their opponents ahead of kick-off, soon gained control of the contest and created the biggest chance of the first half at the midway point.

Hector Fort collected the ball on the right flank before drilling a low cross into the box to the feet of Alvaro Rodríguez, whose first-time effort flashed inches past the post.

The two combined again before the break - this time Rodríguez played Fort in on goal, but the Barcelona loanee saw his shot tipped around the post by David Soria.

Following that chance for the away side, neither attack was able to create an opening, ensuring a half lacking goalmouth action was all square at the break.

After struggling in the final third in the first half, Getafe soon improved following the restart and found themselves ahead 11 minutes into the second period. Allan Nyom’s cross into the box was fired towards goal by Kiko Femenia, and his shot was turned in by Mauro Arambarri.

In response, Rodriguez was Elche’s most threatening player, but they struggled to gain a foothold in the contest as the hosts’ rearguard proved difficult to penetrate.

In the end, Arambarri’s goal proved to be the winner as Los Franjiverdes struggled to even threaten an equaliser, registering just one shot on target in the second half.

Getafe remain in seventh place following just their third win in 12 home league matches, but are breathing down the necks of the clubs sat in the European places ahead. Elche, meanwhile, remain in mid-table, but there will be concerns with their form following a seventh consecutive league game without victory (D3, L4).
