The first set of knockout ties in this year's UEFA Europa League have been completed with the playoff round producing plenty of memorable moments and drama. Amid all the action, who were the standout players across the two legs?

We picked our XI based on average performances over the two legs using our internal ratings system. It's important to note players had to appear in both matches and play a minimum of 60 minutes to make the cut.

Goalkeeper

Remko Pasveer (Ajax) 7.6

Pasveer kept a clean sheet without too much trouble in the first leg between Ajax and Royale Union SG, but an early red card for his side in the second ensured that he'd have a busy night, and he stepped up to the occasion. The 41-year-old made eight saves as his side battled through in extra time, with seven of them stopping efforts from close range too.

Defenders

Sampson Dweh (Plzen) 8.0

Plzen have three players in our team after fighting back from a first-leg defeat to knock out Ferencvaros and the first of them is Liberian defender Dweh, who was a rock at the back with 21 clearances and seven tackles across the two legs.

Josip Sutalo (Ajax) 7.8

Sutalo came on at half-time of Ajax's first leg to help see out the win and then led a young backline as they withstood a 120-minute siege on their goal in the second. At just 24, he's become a key leader in the team.

Yusuf Akcicek (Fenerbahce) 7.8

He may have been playing at the back but Akcicek made a huge impact at the other end of the pitch in both legs of Fenerbahce's tie with Anderlecht. The 19-year-old won a header inside the box to set up his side's opening goal in their home leg and scored their equaliser in Belgium.

Vaclav Jemelka (Plzen) 7.8

Jemelka was another defender who got on the scoresheet in the playoffs, sparking Plzen's comeback with an early goal from a corner in their home clash with Ferencvaros. He performed his defensive duties well in both matches too.

Midfielders

Paulo Dybala (Roma) 7.9

Roma battled past Porto 4-3 on aggregate in a blockbuster clash, with Dybala's brace in the second leg proving decisive. The Argentine levelled the tie with a deft finish beyond Diogo Costa before firing the Giallorossi ahead with a clinical strike at the near post - his eighth goal of the season across all competitions.

Mohammad Abu Fani (Ferencvaros) 7.6

Despite ultimately being eliminated by Plzen, Ferencvaros gave a good account of themselves in the first leg, winning 1-0 on home soil. Abu Fani was the match-winner for his side, firing a deflected effort into the bottom corner to cap an impressive all-round display from the Israeli midfielder.

Pavel Sulc (Plzen) 7.8

After a subpar showing in Budapest, Sulc rose to the occasion for his side in Plzen's Doosan Arena, finding the net with a well-taken finish as well as laying on an assist for Rafiu Durosinmi in a devastating first-half performance.

Forwards

Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad) 7.8

Sociedad eased through to the last 16 after an emphatic 7-3 aggregate victory over Danish side Midtjylland. As is often the case, Kubo was influential across the two legs for the Basque outfit, scoring an important goal in the away leg as well as creating several chances for his teammates on home soil.

Edin Dzeko (Fenerbahce) 7.7

Dzeko played a starring role for Fenerbahce against Anderlecht with two crucial interventions that swung the tie firmly in Jose Mourinho's side's favour. The Bosnian rifled home from close range in the first leg to put the Turkish side 2-0 up before assisting Youssef En-Nesyri early on in Belgium to seal Fenerbahce's progress.

Adam Buksa (Midtjylland) 7.7

Midtjylland might have come second best to Sociedad over the two legs, but Buksa can certainly be proud of his efforts with the Polish striker finding the net twice and providing an assist across two standout displays.
