23-year-old Steijn, who will move to Feyenoord this summer, was the Eredivisie's top goalscorer this season with 24 goals in 33 league games. Steijn set the record for most goals in a single Eredivisie season as a midfielder, overtaking the legendary Jari Litmanen, who Steijn called "his example."
In total, Steijn finished on 31 goals. "It really has been an insane season. I have scored a total of 31 goals. Of course, that's insane for a midfielder," Steijn said after Sunday's loss against AZ.

However, it wasn't enough to secure another year of European football for FC Twente, who lost Sunday's play-off final against AZ 3-2.
The highlights of Steijn's season were undoubtedly some of his best goals: a magnificent free-kick against PSV, a perfectly executed header against Almere City, the solo goal against Sparta Rotterdam, and the excellent bicycle kick against sc Heerenveen.
Steijn was nominated for the award alongside Ajax's Kenneth Taylor and Davy Klaassen, Feyenoord's Igor Paixao, and PSV's Ismael Saibari. Players were nominated based on Opta statistics and official Man of the Match awards. The captains of the 18 Eredivisie clubs picked the winner.

Jorrel Hato
Ajax's Jorrel Hato was named Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year. 19-year-old Hato has been a mainstay in Ajax's defence for the second season running and became the second-youngest player in the club's history to reach 100 games in all competitions.
The young left-back gave six assists, which tied for the team lead, and created 21 chances in the Eredivisie. Hato was decisive on both ends of the pitch and was a constant highlight in Ajax's Eredivisie campaign.
Hato was in the running for the award along with Luciano Valente (FC Groningen), Givairo Read (Feyenoord), Paxten Aaronson (FC Utrecht), and Jakob Breum (Go Ahead Eagles). The five candidates were selected based on Opta statistics and the winner was picked by the 18 Eredivisie managers.
