Daley Blind left Ajax in January 2023 after a falling-out with manager Alfred Schreuder, who made things personal after an altercation during half-time in an Eredivisie game against RKC Waalwijk in October 2022. Blind left on a free transfer to Bayern Munich after playing 333 games for the club across two spells.
Meanwhile, Dusan Tadic left six months later after not seeing eye-to-eye with new technical director Sven Mislintat. Tadic was in the middle of a long-term contract which would've made the Serbian a coach at the club following his retirement. The Serbian painfully left the club he'd played 241 games for in five years, in which he scored 105 and provided 112 assists.
The 35-year-old Blind currently plays at Spanish side Girona, where he has a contract until 2026. Tadic, who will turn 37 in November, will leave Turkish giants Fenerbahce following the expiry of his contract this summer.
Tensions
Especially Tadic has been linked to a return to Ajax several times since his sudden departure. Ajax director Marijn Beuker confirmed earlier this year that Ajax were interested in bringing the Serbian veteran back to Amsterdam, but according to Dutch media, tensions in the top of the Ajax structure are rising at the idea of bringing back the two veterans.
ESPN has reported that senior advisor Louis van Gaal and board member Danny Blind are in favour of the returns of Blind and Tadic, whilst Beuker and head of scouting Kelvin de Lang are opposed to bringing back the club icons.
If Ajax want to move ahead with Tadic's return, they'll have to act quickly. According to Greek reports, Tadic has agreed to sign a two-year deal at Greek giants Olympiacos, where he would earn €4 million annually.
