Ghanaian coach George Boateng (49) has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant managerial position at Blackburn Rovers following the departure of John Eustace to Derby County.

Boateng, who has a rich history in football both as a player and coach, is currently on a shortlist that includes several other notable names.

He recently worked as a first-team coach of Championship side Coventry City, a team where he previously played from 1998 to 1999.

Before that, Boateng was part of Ghana’s technical team serving as an assistant coach under Chris Hughton and Otto Addo.

The coach has a lot of experience working in England playing for clubs like Coventry, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.

Boateng also coached youth teams, including Blackburn Rovers' academy team, and Aston Villa's U18 and U21 teams.

Other names like former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, Braga's Carlos Carvalhal, and ex-Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky are also reportedly in the running for the head coach role at Blackburn.

Boateng who recently left his role as one of Mark Robin’s assistants, has expressed his desire to step into a managerial position.

The urgency for Blackburn to secure a new head coach is heightened by their current standing in the Championship, where they are competing for a playoff spot with just 15 matches remaining in the season.

The Rovers are set to face Plymouth Argyle this weekend, sitting fifth in the league after 32 games.

The management team are under pressure to make a swift appointment to maintain their momentum and playoff ambitions as they navigate through this crucial phase of the season.
