The UEFA Champions League saw drama aplenty over the last two days as the competition's first-ever knockout round playoffs came to its conclusion. Eight more sides have joined the top eight teams from the league phase. Here is one stat from each of the return legs.

5 - Seven-time winners AC Milan saw their Champions League journey come to an end as their 1-1 draw at home to Feyenoord was not enough to overturn their 1-0 defeat last week. As a result, the Rossoneri are now winless in five UCL knockout round games. Their last victory in the knockout round of the competition came in the 2022/23 season when they beat Napoli 1-0 in the quarter-finals.

4 - Benfica and Monaco played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in Lisbon, a result good enough to take the Portuguese side through 4-3 on aggregate. For the third time in the last five seasons, the two-time European Cup winners will be involved in the last 16. However, the draw made it four home games without a win for Benfica in the Champions League since beating Atletico Madrid 4-0 on matchday 2.

17 - Bayern Munich left it very late to win their tie against Celtic. In the end, Alphonso Davies netted at the death to give the Bavarians a 1-1 draw on the night and a 3-2 aggregate win. Bayern are now in the UCL last 16 for the 17th year running. If including all UEFA club competitions, it is the 22nd season on the spin that the German giants have reached the last 16, 21 of those in this tournament.

21 - Club Brugge are back in the Champions League round of 16, for the second time in the last three seasons. A 3-1 victory at Atalanta, 5-2 on aggregate, gave the Belgians their third-ever win in Italy. The last time they came out on top versus an Italian club away came 21 years ago in the 2003/04 group stage. On that occasion, they topped AC Milan 1-0 at San Siro. That helped Blauw-Zwart finish third.

16 - Borussia Dortmund played to a goalless draw versus Sporting CP at home. Still, the result was enough for the Bundesliga outfit to move on, prevailing 3-0 over the two legs. Curiously, it was Dortmund's 16th match against Portuguese opposition, yet that was their maiden stalemate in such a match. For Sporting, it was their sixth draw in 29 outings against Bundesliga clubs.

12 - Real Madrid have come alive when it mattered most. Their 3-1 home win over Manchester City completed a 6-3 aggregate victory for the holders, seeing them move on once more while the Cityzens are out. The disastrous season continues for the 2022/23 winners; they have lost four straight-away matches in the Champions League. It is the first time in 12 years that Manchester City have lost four straight away games in Europe, with that last occurring across the 2011/12 Europa League knockout rounds and 2012/13 Champions League group stage.

7 - Paris Saint-Germain left no stone unturned in a 7-0 demolition over fellow Ligue 1 side Brest. The latter's maiden continental campaign came to a close with them losing 10-0 on aggregate. On march Les Parisiens to Friday's round of 16 draw. Not only was their victory the heaviest they have ever produced in Europe, but it was also the first time they scored seven in a continental match.

9 - PSV were the last team to book their place in the last 16 of the UCL. They needed extra time, but got the job done against Juventus. The 3-1 result on the night (4-3 on aggregate) allows the Eindhoven club to make consecutive appearances in the round of 16. It also means the Dutch champions are unbeaten in their last nine Champions League home matches; their last defeat in Eindhoven came to Rangers in the playoff round back in 2022/23.
