Former France international Bafetimbi Gomis says he is ‘proud’ of Victor Osimhen’s performances at Galatasaray this season, saying 'he is hungry for success'.

The Nigeria international joined the Turkish Super Lig side on loan in September 2024 after being excluded from Napoli’s first-team squad by Antonio Conte following a failed transfer to Saudi Pro League's Al Ahli on deadline day.

Since joining the Yellow Reds, Osimhen has impressed with brilliant performances, scoring 33 goals in 37 games as the club moves toward a record-extending 25th Super Lig title.

Reflecting on his contribution to Okan Buruk’s squad in the 2024/25 campaign, Gomis, who had two spells at Galatasaray, praised the former African Player of the Year and urged him to guide the club to league glory.

"Osimhen is defending Galatasaray colours as he should, he is doing exemplary well with his performance and I’m very proud of him," the striker, who also represented Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille, told Flashscore.com.

"I hope he leads us to the title and makes Galatasaray, Africa, and all of Nigeria proud.

"He is a hardworking player and really hungry for success."

By scoring twice in Galatasaray’s 4-1 win over Sivasspor last weekend, Osimhen set a new personal record for most goals in a single season.

He also moved three goals ahead of Poland’s Krzysztof Piatek of Istanbul Basaksehir FK in the race for the Golden Boot.

With 83 points from 32 matches, Buruk’s men top the table, sitting eight points ahead of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in second place.

They visit eighth-placed Trabzonspor in their next fixture in Papara Park on Saturday.

'Osimhen knows he is loved at Gala'

The Super Eagle striker's form has attracted the attention of several high-profile clubs, with rumours linking him to some of Europe’s elite teams.

Top clubs in the English Premier League, Spanish LaLiga, and Italian Serie A have reportedly been interested in securing his services.

Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess and strong presence on the field make him a perfect fit for clubs aiming to bolster their attacking options.

Gomis is not keen on discussing where Osimhen should play next, but reminds him that he is loved at Galatasaray.

He continued: "I don’t have any advice to give Osimhen. He knows already that he is loved at Galatasaray and he has to continue to make us proud and to score a lot of goals. I wish him the best."

As the former Lille star continues to shine at Galatasaray, his next career move is set to become one of the most talked-about transfer stories in European football.

PSG European success key to Ligue 1 growth

The French top flight has often been criticised by some as a "farmer's league," but Gomis states that Paris Saint-Germain’s performance in Europe this season is proving otherwise.

The Parisians need a draw against Arsenal on Wednesday night to reach the final of the Champions League this season.

"Ligue 1 is a very good league," he added. "We make many good players for the big clubs in the Premier League, and around the world like in Real Madrid.

"When you see Real Madrid today, you see how much the French people are important in the organisation.

"We have to continue like that. Of course, we don't have the same budget as the big clubs, but we work in a clever way and with good organisation

"Now we have Paris Saint-Germain making a statement in Europe, maybe they will be champions. Their success in the Champions League this season is very important for our league."

Arsenal have lost their last two visits to French sides in all competitions, against Rennes in 2019 and Lens in 2023, after going unbeaten in their first 13 away games (eight wins and five draws).
