Van Wyk, 23, has signed a new deal to keep him in Austria until the end of the 2026/27 season, ending any suggestion, for now, that he would sign for Sundowns in the next transfer window.
It is reward for some fine form this season that has seen him score three goals and provide four assists in 23 appearances (20 starts) for Ried this season.
“Our number 29 will remain in the Innviertel region for the 2026/27 season,” Ried said in a statement. “SV Oberbank Ried has exercised its option to extend the 23-year-old’s contract until the end of the 2027 season."
Wolfgang Fiala, Sporting Director at SV Oberbank Ried, said there had been plenty of interest in the player.
“Over the past 18 months, and especially during our time in the Bundesliga, Antonio has developed into an absolute game-changer,” Fiala said.
“He has adapted well to European football and demonstrates his qualities on the pitch week after week. As a result, there was already a lot of interest in him during the winter transfer window. For us, this move was therefore a logical step.”
Van Wyk joined Ried at the start of the 2024/25 season from boyhood side Stellenbosch FC, where he had spent four seasons in the first team.
He is not the only South African at the Austrian club, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart is also a regular there.
