Morocco coach Tarik Sektioui says claiming a third African Nations Championship title would be a proud moment for the nation.

The Atlas Lions are chasing another continental crown but will have to overcome giant-killers Madagascar in Saturday’s final at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Stadium.

Morocco won their first CHAN title on home soil in 2018, defeating Nigeria 4-0 in the final, and successfully defended it two years later in Cameroon with a 2-0 victory over Mali.

The team now aims to add a third trophy to their growing CHAN legacy, and the North African coach is confident, insisting his side has everything it takes to succeed.

"Each match presents a different scenario with its details that make the difference. We are very confident about the outcome of this match,” Sektioui told the media.

"To win this final, you have to be 100% ready at every level. Respecting your opponent means respecting yourself, but we have the means to succeed and win the final.”

Sektioui highlighted Morocco’s resilience in navigating trips across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda during the tournament, noting that the challenges had strengthened his team’s determination.

"The Moroccan team is the only one that has travelled to the three host countries of this edition, but this gives us the will and determination to overcome the difficulties and win the title.

"Winning this title for the third time is a source of pride for all of us. We are aware of the responsibility we bear and we hope to offer this third title to the Moroccan supporters.

“When we prepare for a final to represent our country, all difficulties disappear. A final is about being crowned winner or not. We are ready to sacrifice everything on the pitch to honour Moroccan football.”

Morocco suffered their only defeat of the tournament against hosts Kenya in their second match. One player to watch in the final is Salaheddine Rahouli, who is determined to help his team lift the trophy and return home victorious.

"We prepared well for the match against Madagascar. We came to CHAN to play the final and we are fully determined to bring the trophy back to Morocco."

Cameroon’s Abdou Abdel Mefire has been appointed as referee for the final, assisted by Djibouti’s Robleh Dirir Eleyeh and Liberia’s Joel Wonka Doe, with Kenya’s Dickens Mimisa Nyagrowa serving as fourth official.
