"I have to enjoy the games that are still to come," said Van Wonderen, according to reports in the newspapers Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung and Bild on Saturday evening.
A concrete discussion with the club management about his future has not yet taken place. "But it's clear to me that I won't be here after this season. All the signals are there. If we were on the same path, then there would be a better dialogue. But that's not the case," the media quoted the coach.
The contract of the Dutchman, who succeeded Karel Geraerts last September, runs until July 2026, and the 56-year-old has made it clear that he wants to continue working for Schalke 04.
"But only if we are on the same page. Not everything has to be perfect. But you have to stand behind the path - and not go left after a few games, then right again. That doesn't work. Then someone else should do it," said van Wonderen.
Critical of the board

"For example, it would be normal for him (Tillmann) to stand next to you and say: That happens sometimes. But we keep going because our path is clear," replied van Wonderen.
