Pittsburgh receives Seattle's No. 13 overall prospect (P) Jeter Martinez as part of the trade.
Ferguson was having a solid year for the Pirates - tossing a 3.74 earned run average in 45 games. The 29-year-old has allowed 18 earned runs on 33 hits in 43.1 innings, striking out 34 while walking 14. Opponents are hitting .214 against Ferguson this year, a major improvement over the last two seasons (2024 - .256, 2023 - .269).
Ferguson is currently on a one-year deal and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
After having great success in rookie ball the past two years, Martinez has been having a rough go at this season in Single-A. The prospect currently posts a brutal 6.18 ERA in 16 starts this season, giving up 43 earned runs on 63 hits in 62.2 innings, striking out 60 while walking 38.
Opponents this season are hitting .264 off Martinez, a drastic uptick compared to rookie ball (.158).
However, Martinez is just 19 years old, giving the Pirates a possible project in the coming years.
