San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (25) will miss the next two to five weeks after sustaining a turf toe injury during Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Backup quarterback Mac Jones will start this week for the 49ers in place of Purdy as the team gets ready for their Sunday matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Jones started in seven games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season after starter Trevor Lawrence was out with a shoulder injury.

Purdy finished the game against Seattle with 277 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on 26-of-35 passing. San Fran ended up beating their division rival 17-13.

The former Mr. Irrelevant (Purdy) signed a five-year, $265 million deal with the 49ers earlier this year and has now become yet another victim of the injury bug that's plaguing the 49ers right now.

Star tight end George Kittle will also be out for four to six weeks after being placed on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury, while star running back Christian McCaffrey entered Sunday's game questionable with a calf injury, though he did play the entire game.

For the team's early injury report for Week 2, the following players did not practice on Wednesday due to injuries: Yetur Gross-Matos (knee), Jauan Jennings (shoulder), and Trent Williams (knee/rest).

Top receiver Brandon Aiyuk also remains on injured reserve along with seven others.

So heading into their game against the Saints, the 49ers will be without their starting quarterback, starting tight end, and No. 1 receiver.
