Vingegaard feared for his life after he sustained seven broken ribs, a fractured sternum, a broken collarbone and both lungs punctured after crashing in the Basque country last year and although Vingegaard enjoys his current career, he doesn´t have have the same career-dreams for his children.
"I think in a way, I want to tell my children that they probably shouldn't take up cycling as a sport if they have the choice."
"I am enjoying cycling as a career. It's not that. I enjoy it and it's a cool sport. But it is also a dangerous sport. We saw that with my accident last year. It's incredibly dangerous, and you have to be away from your family a lot. There are many things you have to sacrifice to become really good."
"I am among the world's best, which makes it easier for me but it's not certain that Hugo will become one of the world's best. I guess I'd say maybe he should do something else besides sports. He will always be compared to me. In that way, it might be smarter for him to do something else.
Besides Hugo Vingegaard has a four-year old daughter (Frida) with his wife Trine.
