The Charlotte Hornets traded guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Greento the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday in exchange for Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps, and three second-round pick swaps.

Ball, 24, is joining Anthony Edwards on a Timberwolves team that was bounced in the second round of the NBA Playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs

He is currently in the third year of his five-year, $203.8 million deal and is set to make $40.7 million this upcoming season. This will put the Timberwolves in the luxury tax for the third-straight year.

Ball has spent all six years of his NBA career with the Hornets after the team selected him third overall in the 2020 draft. The young guard is coming off just the second season of his career, in which he played in more than 60 games.

He posted 20.1 points per game on 40% shooting, while averaging 7.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds through 71 games, just short of his career high of 75 during his sophomore season.

The former Rookie of the Year posted 35 games with at least 20 or more points this past year, nine of which he had 30+, including a season-high 38 points against the Washington Wizards on October 26th.

Green, 25, is coming off the worst season of his career. The Australian, who also came out of the same draft as Ball, posted just 4.3 points per game, the worst since his rookie season when he scored 2.6.

However, his 42% three-point percentage was a good leap from the previous season (39%). After averaging 27.8 minutes per game for Charlotte during the 2024-2025 campaign, Green was reduced to just 15.7 this past season.

Naz Reid

Reid, 26, has spent all seven years of his NBA career with the Timberwolves after signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Since then, he's established himself as one of the league's top players off the bench.

The New Jersey native won Sixth Man of the Year in 2024 and has placed in the top five for the award in each season since. He finished this past season averaging 13.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 blocks in 77 games.

Minnesota was set to make him a starter after the team dealt Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets. Now, Reid will be a key player for a Charlotte Hornets team that is coming off a stunning run into the playoffs.
