The absence of the four Danes in the NHL, Frederik Andersen, Lars Eller, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Nikolaj Ehlers, marks a contrast to the last time Denmark hosted the tournament in 2018, when four Danes including Andersen and Bjorkstrand managed to cross the Atlantic.
The other two were Frans Nielsen and Mikkel Boedker, who since then have brought down the curtain on their careers.
The Washington Capitals with Danish Lars Eller played their way through to the playoffs on Thursday night. Therefore, Eller is busy chasing the Stanley Cup trophy
"NHL players are only an option if their team are not playing in the playoffs, so it is not relevant since we are still in it. I hope that Denmark will have a good tournament on home ice", writes Lars Eller in a text message to dr.dk.
Tampa Bay Lightning's Oliver Bjorkstrand will also miss out on the World Championships due to an injury.
"Unfortunately, I was injured just before the play-offs in my left thigh", says Bjorkstrand, who suffers from bleeding inside a muscle, most frequently seen where bone fractures or crushing of tissue occur.
Tampa Bay were otherwise eliminated from the playoffs yesterday after losing 1-4 in the series against the Florida Panthers, which could have paved the way a trip back home for Bjorkstrand.
"Because of the injury I can't play in the World Championships this year. I won't be ready to play until three or four weeks from now", says Oliver Bjorkstrand, who was traded from the Seattle Kraken to the Tampa Bay Lightning in March.
Denmark play their first game in the World Championships in Herning on 9 May.
