Denmark on Monday night were dealt their third successive defeat at the World Championships when they, despite amazing home support at the Boxen Arena, lost 7-2 against the reigning world champions from the Czech Republic.

Denmark otherwise played their best period of the championships during the first period where they were unfortunate not to take the lead when a goal from Mikkel Aagaard was marked marginally offside.

During the championships, the Danish hosts have struggled to keep up the pace in the second period, and that happened once more as the Czechs scored four goals in fairly quick succession while Nick Olesen cut the deficit towards the end of the period.

The Czechs took the lead after four minutes of the second period as the Danish defense succumbed to intense Czech pressure, when Martin Necas poked the puck over the line with his skate after a tough infight with Markus Lauridsen at the far post.

The Danes barely had time to catch their breath before the puck again hit the net as Daniel Gazda fooled a couple of Danish defenders to whistle a shot past Frederik Dichow

Then after 34 minutes Boston Bruins star David Pastnak was given far too much space on the Danish right side and easily slipped past full-back Philip Brugisser to leave Dichow helpless with a clever finish.

Just seconds later the experienced Czech side made it 4-0, when the Danish defense again lacked aggression to keep away the threat of Pastrnak who this time turned provider for Lukas Sedlak to get on the scoreboard.

Just before the end of the period, the Danish hosts did manage to cut the deficit, when a Czech stick directed a pass from Patrick Russell into the body of Nick Olesen and into the net.

Necas continued to show his goal instinct in the third period while also team-mates Daniel Vozenilek and Roman Cervenka got on the scoreboard while the Danes scored once through Christian Wejse.
