Farjestad have appointed former Rogle man Cam Abbott as their new head coach until at least the end of the current Swedish Hockey League (SHL) season.

Following a run of four successive defeats, Farjestad sacked Jorgen Jonsson on Friday, before succumbing to another loss at home to Djurgarden on Saturday. That poor run of form has seen them slip out of the top six in the SHL and down to ninth place.

The 2025 Champions Hockey League (CHL) runners-up have moved swiftly in an attempt to stop the rot, bringing in Abbott, who is currently contracted to the Carolina Hurricanes coaching setup and effectively joins Farjestad on loan until the end of the season.

However, the Swedish side are confident that an agreement can be reached should they wish to prolong the 42-year-old's services.

The Canadian spent the majority of his professional career in Norway and Sweden, turning out for Lulea and Rogle, before coaching the latter from 2017 to 2023, guiding the Angelholm side to a first CHL title in 2022.

Abbott most recently coached the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League, departing last month, and is expected to take training on Wednesday 14th, ahead of Farjestad's away match at HV 71 the following day.
