Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen (28) scored yet another hat-trick to uplift his team to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night to take Game 1 of the Western Conference semi-finals.

Rantanen is now coming off of back-to-back hat tricks for the Stars and now leads all players with eight goals these playoffs.

With an emphatic win in Game 1 where all the goals scored between both teams came in the second period, let's get into the recap!

1st Period

The first period between the Stars and Jets didn't see anything on the scoreboard despite both teams combining for 25 shots on net (WPG - 13, DAL - 12).

Winnipeg went on the power play with just under seven minutes left but failed to make anything of it.

However, the period ended with a Dallas penalty after Cody Ceci was called for high-sticking with just eight seconds left in the period.

Winnipeg, looking like they felt the effects of coming off a physical double-overtime Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues, still managed to outhit the Stars in the first period 14-10 while blocking nine shots to Dallas' two.

2nd Period

Nino Niederreiter finally got things started just over three minutes into the period with a beautiful backhanded goal to put the Jets up 1-0.

This marks his third goal and seventh point of the playoffs - as a third-liner.

After five minutes of play went by, Mikko Rantanen tied it all up at one a piece for the Stars after his sixth goal of the playoffs.

And who else to put the Stars back up on the scoreboard again? Rantanten scored his second of the game and seventh of the playoffs, officially making him the hottest goal-scorer of any team in the playoffs.

How about a hat trick?

Rantanen's third goal of the game now makes it eight in eight games these playoffs and now marks back-to-back games with a hat trick.

He has also either scored or assisted in 12 of the Stars' goals these playoffs.

But the Jets responded right away as Mark Scheifele, returning from injury, scored a goal to put the Jets within one shortly before the second intermission.

The teams were almost even in shots on goal (WPG - 21, DAL - 20) while the Jets continued to dominate on the physical end in hits (32-18).

3rd Period

However, the third period shockingly didn't see a single goal as the Dallas Stars held on to a 3-2 lead all the way until the end.

Winnipeg went with the empty net just under two minutes to go in the period but couldn't create another last-second miracle this time around.

The Jets finished with 32 shots on goal and 46 hits while the Stars put up 24 shots on goal and 24 hits - but all that mattered was the score sheet.

Game 2 between the Jets and Stars will be played in Winnipeg on Friday, May 9th.
