The Washington Capitals took Game 2 from the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night to even the series up 1-1.

Washington took home a 3-1 victory over the Canes in a game that saw many scrums and a lot of chirping between two teams that have made it clear to everyone that they do not like each other.

After a slow start, Game 2 proved to be another exciting one in the end, so let's recap by each period!

1st Period

The first period was about as dull as it came for a Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup. With just 12 shots on goal combined and both teams failing on their lone power plays, there wasn't much to look for here.

It started out reminiscent of Game 1 when the Canes outshot the Caps by three times the amount, with the Canes outshooting the Caps seven to five.

But outside of that, the biggest highlights were the commercials.

2nd Period

After being outshot in the first period 7-5, the Capitals brought out all the momentum throughout the second.

They came back to outshoot the Canes 11-4, including a goal from their young breakout star, Connor McMichael, just over two minutes into the period shortly after failing on a power play.

The top-shelf, breakaway goal marked McMichael's fourth of the playoffs.

By the end of the period, the Caps overtook the Canes on both the shots on goal chart (16-11) and hits (15-12).

The saving grace for the Capitals throughout the first two periods was undoubtedly their defence, which blocked a total of 22 shots to the Canes' seven.

Caps star forward Tom Wilson set the tone after a very conservative first period, laying multiple hits and sacrificing his body with clutch blocked shots.

3rd Period

John Carlson scores on a power-play goal just two minutes into the period to put the Caps up 2-0.

The goal is his first of the playoffs and the 21st of his career. It also marked the very first power play given up by Carolina in the playoffs - they were 20-for-20 before Carlson's goal.

Carolina followed up with a power-play goal of their own, courtesy of Shayne Gostisbehere, his second of the playoffs that got just under the arm of Caps goaltender Logan Thompson

The Canes went with the empty net with just under two minutes to go but ended up proving to be their downfall after Wilson scored the empty net goal to put the Caps up 3-1 with exactly one minute left, a perfect cap to the night for the Caps star player who was everywhere on the ice throughout the game.

Carolina couldn't figure out a comeback despite doubling their shots on goal from the first two periods combined and outhitting Washington in the end.

Thompson continued to prove why he's one of the best goalies in the league as he finished with 27 saves.

Game 3 between the Canes and Caps will take place on Saturday, May 10th, in Carolina.
