NHL roundup: Maple Leafs, Red Wings and Stars all earn their fifth straight win

In a big slate of games on Tuesday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and Dallas Stars all earned their fifth straight win.

The Maple Leafs (27-13-2) and the Flyers (17-19-5) traded goals between the first and second periods tying it up 2-2. Travis Konecny (20) scored both goals for the Flyers while John Tavares (20) and Auston Matthews (13) scored the first two for Toronto. 

It wasn't until Matthew Knies' (16) goal in the third period that sealed the 3-2 win for the Maple Leafs, growing their lead over the rest of the Atlantic Division. 

Red Wings 3-2 Senators

Similar to the Maple Leafs-Flyers game, the Red Wings (18-18-4) and Senators (19-17-3) traded goals to send a 2-2 game into overtime. Dylan Larkin (17) and Joe Veleno (5) scored for Detroit while Thomas Chabot (3) and Brady Tkachuk (18) scored for Ottawa.

Veteran Patrick Kane (9) sniped the game-winner home to give Detroit their fifth straight win. Both teams had 32 shots on goal. 

Stars 5-4 Rangers

In a wild game, the Rangers (18-20-2) scored three straight goals before the Stars (25-13-1) responded with three straight goals of their own.

The two teams exchanged one goal each in the third period to send it to overtime where Jamie Benn (11) scored the game-winner. 

Alexis Lafrenière (11) scored twice for New York while Vincent Trocheck (12) scored the other two. Matt Duchene (16), Evgenii Dadonov (11), Jason Robertson (10), and Thomas Harley (6) all scored for Dallas. 

Around the league

The Edmonton Oilers extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-0 shutout win over the Boston Bruins thanks to two goals from Adam Henrique (5).

Meanwhile, The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 after Kirill Marchenko scored the game-winner during the shootout.

The Tampa Bay Lightning took home a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes while the Minnesota Wild scored four straight unanswered goals in their 6-4 win over the St. Louis Blues

The Winnipeg Jets continue their dominance after a 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators
