The 4 Nations Face-Off Championship on Thursday night was everything all the fans could've wished for and then some as Team Canada beat Team USA by a score of 3-2 after heading to overtime.

Connor McDavid scored the game-winner with a point-blank shot to give Canada the gold medal. For those of you who may not remember, Canada beat the USA in overtime by a score of 3-2 during the 2010 Olympics gold medal match.

Now, history repeats itself.

Canada goaltender Jordan Binnington made some unreal saves over and over to keep the game alive, and it was all worth it in the end.

Check below for a full breakdown of the biggest moments from regulation.

First Period

Canada star Nathan MacKinnon (29) got his team on the board first just five minutes into the first period to give the boys in red the 1-0 lead. The beautiful shot was almost impossible for USA goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (31) to stop with all the traffic in front.

Despite going down 1-0 in the first, Hellebuyck kept the USA in the game multiple times with a ton of wonderful saves that could've ended up putting Canada on the board as much as three more times.

But his teammates responded with a goal of their own before the first period ended after Brady Tkachuk (25) scored off of a rebound from an Auston Matthews (27) wrap-around shot on Canadian goaltender Jordan Binnington (31).

The first half of the first period was a dominant one by Canada but the USA fought back and were electric in the latter half of the period.

Second Period

The second period found itself to be a lot more chippy between both teams. But USA's young rising star Jake Sanderson (22) got the USA out to a 2-1 lead. Both goals for the USA were during the Tkachuk brothers' line.

Despite being down a man on their first penalty kill, the USA managed to evade danger from Canada's monstrous power play unit after two shots from Dylan Larkin (28) and a puck clear from Jack Eichel (28) despite not having his stick.

But Canada fought back and got a goal of their own thanks to Cam Bennett (25) with six minutes left in the period on a wide-open shot thanks to a beautiful pass from Mitch Marner (27).

Third Period

The third period may not have shown anything on the scoreboard, but that doesn't mean it wasn't one of the most anxiety-inducing periods in recent hockey history.

With key blocks by the USA defencemen and shots ringing off the post for Canada, nothing could've sent this game into overtime with more excitement out of the nail-biting third period.
