Sweden have qualified for the 2026 European Women's Handball Championship with two Group 5 matches to spare after beating Serbia 27-22 in Lund.

It's a second victory over Serbia in four days for Sweden, who triumphed 29-26 in Kragujevac earlier this week and maintain their 100% record in the group.

The two wins this month have moved the Scandinavians four points clear of Serbia, while Ukraine are a further two points back but have a game in hand. However, with Serbia and Ukraine still to meet each other, it is now impossible for both to overtake Sweden in the table.

That guarantees a top-two finish for the Swedes, who have therefore qualified for the Women's EHF EURO for the 15th time.

Sweden began this evening's match as they meant to go on, racing into a 5-0 lead as Tyra Axner and Clara Lerby grabbed a couple of goals each. There was no let up in the Swedish attack in the first half, as they scored 19 times in the first 30 minutes to Serbia's 11, as Emma Lindqvist became a focal point in attack.

In the second half, the visitors cut the gap to just four at one stage, but were unable to force a comeback, as though Sweden scored just eight after the break, conceding another 11 meant they comfortably held on for a 27-22 win.

Lerby finished as top scorer with seven goals, as Emma Olsson joined Axner and Lindqvist on five each. Jovana Skrobic and Aleksandra Stamenic were Serbia's most efficient scorers, also netting five times each.

The Women's EHF EURO 2026 will be played across Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey, and Sweden will be aiming to lift the trophy for the first time, coming closest in 2010 when they finished as runners-up.
