Coach Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen called a timeout with a minute left in the game, as the Faroe Islands were still trailing by one goal (27-28) and desperately needed to score to get at least a point from their efforts. Elias á Skipagøtu took the responsibility to shoot, but Nikola Portner made his 13th save to give Switzerland all chances of claiming the win.
It was the Swiss's turn to take a timeout, but they could not take advantage of their attack, and the Faroese then scored to level the game. Switzerland then thought they had taken the lead at the following attack, but a video replay showed that the buzzer had sounded before the ball crossed the line.
Elias Ellefsen à Skipagøtu was leading goal scorer for the Faroe Islands with nine goals.
