Faroese handball is enjoying a bit of a golden age for both men and women.

The men's national team is blessed with a very talented bunch of young players who are carrying the team forward. Among the most prominent are cousins Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu from THW Kiel and Óli Mittún from GOG, as well as Mathias Gidsel's teammate Hákun West av Teigum from Füchse Berlin.

The Faroe Islands are in a group with Switzerland, Slovenia and Montenegro in the initial group stage.
