Liverpool face a significant squad-building dilemma after agreeing to sell Curtis Jones to Inter Milan.

There is a possibility they do not replace the homegrown star with a new signing, as they head into the new Premier League season.

Jones, 25, is an Academy graduate and had been the subject of interest from Inter for several months. The Serie A club are finally getting their man after Liverpool sanctioned his departure in a £30 million deal.

New Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola wanted Jones to remain at Anfield but a new contract could not be agreed and he is now close to completing his move to Italy.

The immediate challenge for Liverpool is how they replace Jones within the squad.

The club are not believed to have significant finances available for another major midfield signing, meaning the solution might come from within.

One option being considered is 19-year-old Trey Nyoni, who has impressed and is viewed as a player with significant potential.

It was expected that Nyoni and Liverpool would be open to loan offers this summer, but he is trying to make an impact at Liverpool instead, and sources say Liverpool want to ensure there is sufficient room for him to develop, rather than blocking his pathway with another senior arrival.

Liverpool's transfer business is continuing, however, with the focus primarily on attacking reinforcements.

The club made an approach for Brighton winger Yakuba Minteh this week, but their £50 million offer was rejected.

Liverpool are also exploring a blockbuster move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, while discussions have taken place with PSG over a potential deal for 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye.

The departure of Jones now leaves Liverpool balancing two priorities, in maintaining squad depth in midfield while continuing to pursue significant attacking additions.
