Remarkably, the woodwork was struck four times in an entertaining first half, with Danilo the first to do so inside just four minutes as he struck the back post from a worked free-kick - he really should have scored.
Down the other end, Mark Delgado curled onto the outside of the post with a commendable effort from distance, before Giorgian de Arrascaeta did the same for Flamengo.

The Brazilians largely dominated proceedings and Pedro almost scored what would have been a controversial opener on the half-hour mark, striking the crossbar while goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was on the ground injured. Marlon did head home for LAFC before HT, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Both goalkeepers were busy early in the second half. First, Agustin Rossi saved well from Denis Bouanga at his near post, before Lloris tipped over Evertton Araujo’s curler from range.
Then, for the fifth time in the match, the woodwork shattered again as De Arrascaeta struck the underside of the crossbar from the edge of the box.
However, despite Flamengo’s pressure, it was LAFC who opened the scoring late on through Bouanga, who pounced on a quick free-kick to record his 16th goal contribution in 11 games in all competitions.

The drama was not done there, though, as Jorginho came off the bench to thread a ball through to another substitute in Wallace Yan, who then calmly slotted past Lloris.
Both teams already knew their fate before a ball was kicked, with Flamengo progressing safely into the knockout stage while LAFC crashed out and now turn their attentions swiftly back to their MLS campaign.
