Jordan Martinook scored the double overtime game-winning goal as the Carolina Hurricanes took a 2-0 playoff series lead over the Ottawa Senators on Monday.

The game saw over 200 total shots, with 82 of them on goal. This series will now head to Ottawa for Game 3 (April 23rd) and Game 4 (April 25th).

Home teams that win their first two games go on to win the series 88% of the time.

A goal from Mark Jankowski in the first overtime was called back after a further review that ruled the Canes were offside. They were awarded a penalty shot, though, where Martinook would be denied by Linus Ullmark.

Had he made the shot, it would've been the first overtime penalty shot game winner in Stanley Cup Playoffs history.

From the third period through the first overtime, neither team would go on the power play, making it the longest stretch of even-strength play of any series so far these playoffs.

Recap & Highlights

After he dropped the gloves right at puck-drop in Game 1, Ottawa's Brady Tkachuk committed the first penalty of Game 2 that left Carolina to take advantage.

Logan Stankoven scored the first goal of the game, his second of the playoffs, as the Canes went up 1-0 six minutes into the first.

The two assists came from Taylor Hall and Jackson Blake. All three of them have combined on the Canes' first three goals these playoffs (won 2-0 in Game 1).

After Andrei Svechnikov committed a rough 8:49 in the first, he would be back in the penalty box once more, the second time for interference as Ottawa was gifted a second chance to tie it up.

But Ottawa would fail on both attempts as they went into the first intermission down 1-0 and outshot 14-9.

It marked 80 shutout minutes for Carolina goalie Frederik Andersen to start the playoffs in the first two games, becoming the first goalie to do so since Cam Talbot (Minnesota Wild) in 2021.

The power play woes would continue for Ottawa, failing on another, making it 0-for-7 in the series up to that point. And, right after, the Canes wasted no time in doubling their lead.

Sebastian Aho would score his first of the playoffs to put the Canes up 2-0 almost eight minutes into the second.

Aho now ties Valtteri Filppula for the fifth-most playoff points (86) all-time by a Finnish player. He needs just three more to surpass Teemu Selanne

Ullmark would keep his boys in the game after making what could go down as the best save of the series.

It took a while, but Ullmark's save would prove to be worth it as the Sens began to rally.

Drake Batherson would get one by Andersen for his first goal of the playoffs, making it 2-1.

It was just Batherson's second playoff goal of his career, with his other being last year in Game 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs

The game would go into a 4-on-4 after both got called for two minor rough penalties, but neither team would find the net with the extra space.

Ottawa preferred even strength as Dylan Cozens scored his first goal of the playoffs to make it 2-2 with three minutes left in the second.

Just like Batherson, it was also Cozen's second career playoff goal.

Carolina would keep the pressure on before the end of the second period, but Ullmark would prove to be a man possessed.

He would finish the second period with 13 saves on 14 of Carolina's shot attempts.

With 13.5 seconds left, the Canes were pouring on the shots down in Ottawa's end, but Ullmark would pull through again with the acrobatic save that sent it into overtime.

He would finish the night with 41 saves.
