Russell Westbrook to join Sacramento Kings just as new season gets underway

It is a new NBA team for former MVP Russell Westbrook, as he is joining the Sacramento Kings.

The deal, was confirmed by Westbrook's agent Jeff Schwartz from Excel Sports Management.

The Athletic reported that the 36-year-old will sign for one year on a minimum-salary deal.

Westbrook is heading into his 18th season in the league, where he quite the accolades already. He has two first-team All-NBA awards, nine All-Star selections, as well as two scoring and three assist season titles. He also has the most triple doubles all-time.

Westbrook has been deployed as a sixth man in recent years. Last year, he played 75 games with the Denver Nuggets, 36 of which he started. He averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals, shooting 44.9% in the field.

Despite all of his accomplishments, Westbrook has never won the NBA title. The closest he came was in 2012, when he reached the NBA Finals with Oklahoma City Thunder before losing in five games to the Miami Heat.

The former UCLA Bruin was selected fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft for the Seattle SuperSonics, who later became the Thunder. After 11 years in Oklahoma City, he moved to Houston to join the Rockets. Beyond that, he has also suited up for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Nuggets.

The first game for the Kings this season will be on October 22nd against the Phoenix Suns.
